Want to buy a TV? Look for these things to choose the right machine

For many, buying a TV can be exhilarating, yet daunting. With a long line of varied technologies and features to get your head around, not forgetting the puzzling acronyms to learn too, there’s a lot to take in while choosing a telly in 2022.

Most high-end TVs come with heavy price tags so picking one from the store is often a significant purchase. It is important to be sure that you are spending the hard-earned money on a machine that’ll last and perform as expected. And if you’re walking to a shop or scanning an online store for a new TV and are feeling overwhelmed by the volume of options available, here is your TV buying guide to help you make the right choice.

1) Pick a perfect size

Finding the right size will be your first challenge while choosing a TV. In stores, TVs often appear larger or smaller than they originally look or what you are expecting, thanks to the way they are displayed. Rooms have varied dimensions so selecting a random size will make your living room appear either small or big for the TV. Make sure that you are selecting a machine that is a perfect fit for your room. Check out the Impex website to know more about the sizes available.

2) Know the display (LCD, LED, QLED or OLED)

TVs offer the most exciting experience to your eyes. The better the screen quality the better the watching experience. There are mainly four terms used to refer to the displays — LCD, LED, QLED, OLED — and learning the basic difference between the technologies used in each panel will help you to find the best TV for you.

OLEDs are generally the most advanced display with high-end technology and are priced on the higher side. The screen offers an amazing viewing experience with wide color ranges and brightness. Go for it only if your budget is on that price territory. If you find OLED too expensive but still want a screen of similar quality, then go with QLED which is also priced high but a little lesser than the former. Then you have the LED and LCD TVs in the mid-priced segments offering a decent viewing experience. Check out the Impex Smart TV collections to pick the screen of your choice.

3) Resolution (HD, Full HD, 4K and 8K)

Screen resolution is one of the most important features to consider while buying a TV. Where there were once only sub-HD TVs, we now see 8K TVs with true-to-life visuals and sound. While the market has seen more 8K TVs, there is not enough 8K (7680x4320) content available for streaming. Choose 4K (3840 x 2160), which is a little expensive but has a higher pixel density to go with most of the high-resolution OTT content. The other available options are Full HD (1920x1080) and HD Ready (720PPI). While higher resolution is desirable it is only available with very few cable content providers (at higher costs), and with OTT at higher subscriptions. Additionally high resolution content requires higher internet bandwidth to download. So choose your resolution requirements with due consideration on content availability and costs.

4) Operating systems (Android and webOS)

Mainly, there are two operating systems in the market, android and webOS, with the former being used in a wider variety of products including streaming sticks, and set-top boxes. WebOS is the new entrant to the TV territory and is now fast catching up with its cousin in popularity. The two systems offer different user interfaces and come with their own set of features and a host of pre-installed apps to enhance the TV viewing experience. Also ensure that the TV that you purchase is either official android certified (google play store) or with webOS app store in order to get continuity on OTT app availability. Check out our webOS and Android TVs for more information.

5) Sound makes a difference

Consider the sound quality too as it plays a huge role in the overall TV viewing experience especially when you are watching content with brilliant sound effects. Without a good sound system, it is difficult to generate a theater-like experience. Look for speaker configurations to choose the right sound system for your TV. Pick a TV with a subwoofer bass unit as it will give you better sound quality. A front-firing speaker system does also promise a wholesome hearing experience. Impex has a wide range of smart TVs with different sound configurations. Check out our webstore for more information.
